Traditional Thumb Sticks
[351407]

£20.50

Long and Rustic Sticks

Whether used for balance on a rural walk or as an ideal accessory in the game fair beer tent. Long and rustic sticks are an essential component of British country style. From the trusty hiking staff to the eye catching shepherd’s crook, long sticks are companions for all. The thumb stick is so called because, as the name suggests, it is held  with the thumb resting in the natural ‘V’  The wider ‘V’ is also available which also makes an ideal elbow rest, when there is no gate

351407 - Chestnut Thumbstick with Combi-ferrule £20.50

A simple and classic walking stick suitable for country walks.  Grown from coppiced chestnut wood, this staff has an attractive colour and features a natural 'V' in the wood, which forms a convenient place to rest one's thumb whilst grasping the stick.

The ferrule is a 'Combi-ferrule': a rubber ferrule fitted over a spiked one, so that the staff may be used on both hard and soft surfaces.
Overall height approximately 122cm.

353588 - Chestnut Thumbstick  £21.50

A very traditional long stick, beloved of country people.  Called a 'thumbstick' because of the natural 'V' in the handle, which is comfortable to hold with one's thumb resting in the 'V'.

It is made from chestnut wood, a favourite for rustic sticks. Sometimes the bark is removed from chestnut sticks, but in this example it has been left on to give the stick an interesting appearance and texture.

Fitted with a Combi-spike ferrule (a removeable rubber ferrule fitted over a spiked one, so that the stick may be used on both hard and soft surfaces).

Overall height approximately 130cm.

353550 - Ash Thumbstick £24.50

The ash thumbstick is an unusual long stick that is much sought after in the countryside.

Produced using the coppicing method, these sticks are formed from the shoot that grows when the upper part of a young ash tree is removed.  Occasionally, these shoots fork to produce the distinctive thumbstick shape; the stick should be grasped around the neck, with the user's thumb resting in the 'V' formed by the shoots.

They are grown in the Somerset woodland of the manufacturer, Classic Canes.

Height between 122 - 135cm.

Fitted with a 'Combi-spike' ferrule: a rubber ferrule fitted over a spiked one so that the stick may be used on hard and soft ground.

353549 - Hazel Thumbstick  £22.50

Fitted with a 'Combi-spike' ferrule: a rubber ferrule fitted over a spiked one so that the stick may be used on hard and soft ground.

Approximately 122cm overall height.
